Every care is taken to be as environmentally aware as possible. The policy has always been to use timber from local woodlands and sell as locally as possible. The aim being to promote positive, sustainable management of woodlands, reduce transport and improve the local economy. It also enables customers to have a direct link to the origin of their products.
The aim is to make the most efficient use of the tree as possible. The tree is carefully sawn to make the most of its potential. Conversion and seasoning of timber takes place in the woodland eliminating the need for lorry journeys to sawmills. Seasoning naturally takes several years and reduces the weight of wood being transported. The branch wood is also used, some for craft purposes, the rest for firewood. Offcuts are used wherever possible to create small items. Sawdust is used as mulch. In short nothing is wasted. The trees have grown for up to 200 years so I feel it is my duty to make the most of them.
To create a new generation of trees, planting or protection of naturally regenerating trees is carried out where necessary. In this way the woodland is secured for the future. |
